How to wash your extensions with purple shampoo

Well—now that you’re here, we can finally begin.

How to wash your extensions with purple shampoo video below!

Thank you for choosing our hand-tied extensions, and we’re here to guide you through the proper care routine. To maintain a vibrant blonde color or a neutral brunette tone on your extensions while keeping them clean and healthy, we recommend following these steps when using purple shampoo:

Preparation:

1. Gather your favorite purple shampoo. We love Milbon or Unite.
2. Ensure your extensions are detangled gently using a wide-tooth comb.

Wet Your Hair and Extensions:

1. Thoroughly wet both your natural hair and the extensions with warm water. Really get the hair wet and rinsed well.

Application of Purple Shampoo:

1. Dispense a generous amount of purple shampoo into your palms and quickly distribute it evenly on your hair and extensions, using a wiping downward motion verses a scrunching/balling up the hair.

Gentle Massage:

1. Using your fingertips, gently massage the purple shampoo into your hair and extensions. Avoid vigorous rubbing or twisting to prevent tangling or damaging your hair.

Leave-In Time:

1. Extension hair quickly takes the purple tone, and is one of the main reasons we separate the extensions out and wash them by themselves. We recommend putting on the shampoo, and as soon as it’s been evenly distributed over the extensions, then rinse it out… so around 30 seconds.

Rinse Thoroughly:

1. Rinse your hair and extensions with warm water until the water runs clear. Make sure there’s no shampoo residue left.
2. Then repeat the steps for your natural hair.

Conditioning:

1. Add conditioner to your extensions and then clip away as you shampoo your natural hair with the purple shampoo. This gives your extensions a little deep conditioning treatment while also preventing any over toning while shampooing your natural hair.

Pat Dry Gently:

1. After rinsing, gently pat your hair and extensions dry using a soft towel. Avoid rubbing or wringing to prevent damage and don’t twist up tightly or pull on the wefts.

Maintenance:

1. Wash your hand-tied extensions with purple shampoo on an as-needed basis, typically every 2-3 weeks, or as recommended by your Lumen Salon stylist.

Remember, proper care is key to ensuring the longevity and beauty of your hand-tied extensions.
